Step into the Big Texan Steak Ranch and you’re taking a giant step back to the rowdy, rip-roaring days of the late 1800s.

As you cross the threshold you will feel the excitement shared by thousands of visitors each year.  Laughter echoes above the sizzle of steaks on the open grill and the buzz of conversation.  The strolling musicians may be strumming “The Yellow Rose of Texas,” or “Amarillo By Morning.”  Mouths begin to water as the savory smell of smoke and good beef fill the air.  Eyes open wide as they take in the old-fashioned bar, the giant rocking chair, the Magician entertaining in the lobby and the lure of thousands of intriguing items in the gift shop.

The Big Texan opens its doors at 7 am every morning.  There are always plenty of friendly smiles and hot coffee to get the day off to a good start.  Belly up to the Giant Breakfast Buffet and fill your plate with skillet potatoes, freshly baked biscuits, breakfast enchiladas, fresh fruit, muffins, warm cinnamon rolls, eggs, bacon, sausage and good country gravy.  Then mosey over to the omelet bar and gather up the fixin’s for the best omelet in the Southwest.  If you want something a little lighter than an omelet, let the cooks flip a couple of eggs over easy for you.  Do you like waffles?  Try one of our custom-made Texas waffles with warm maple syrup.

The breakfast menu includes a Ranch Hand Breakfast Sandwich that will put McDonald’s to shame.  Choose a spicy breakfast burrito or some old-fashioned oatmeal.  Whatever your taste, the Big Texan serves up a breakfast as comforting and tasty as anything you’d find in your mother’s own kitchen.

If you’ve worked up a thirst, be sure to try one of our flavored teas, or a glass of Mama Lee’s Sweet Tea.  It’s a favorite all across the south.

Things really start cranking up the sun begins to sink across the broad Amarillo sky.  The strolling musicians tune-up their guitars and fiddles about 6 pm every evening to entertain guests who have time to linger in the waning light.  The dining room begins to fill and more cowboys and cowgirls appear to serve the growing crowd.

Big Texan Prime Rib is one of the all-time favorites.  Served with our own special horseradish sauce and your choice of side dishes, it’s a meal fit for the king of the cowboys.  Eaters from around the world eagerly make their way through tender 6-oz. filets and hearty 36-oz. Houston Cut ribeyes.

Old friends and new acquaintances gather at the bar or one of the lobby tables to have a cold drink, share an appetizer and discuss their adventures.

The Big Texan began and continues as a family-oriented restaurant.  The Lee children grew up in and around the restaurant, and they enjoy seeing families having a good time here.  They’ve created a special menu just for the youngsters.  Each meal is served up in a cowboy hat that the little buckaroos can take home with them.  It’s a memento of an experience they’ll never forget!

Come and celebrate your holidays with us!

There’s nothing like a family gathering to celebrate a holiday.  The only downside is all that time spent in the kitchen preparing the meal and cleaning up afterwards.  The Big Texan eliminates all the fuss and the bother, and let’s you concentrate on good times with your loved ones.  We take reservations for groups of six or more, so you can plan your meal at the time that best fits your family’s schedule.

Thanksgiving and Christmas Buffets at the Big Texan feature our famous Blackened Cajun Turkey Breast, along with traditional roast turkey and roast beef.  Danny Lee’s Texas-style Cornbread Dressing is the best you’ll find in the Texas Panhandle.  Real giblet gravy, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, salads, home-made dressings, relishes and vegetables round out the buffet.  If you still have room left, a slice of pecan or pumpkin pie will satisfy your sweet tooth.

The Big Texan family also celebrates Easter and Mother’s Day with special buffets.  We always serve the best roast beef, but the poultry and pork dishes may vary along with a wide selection of spring vegetables.  Try our tasty selection of home-brewed ice teas, and we’ll make sure your glass never runs dry.

Kids are always welcome at the Big Texan.  On the holidays we try to make their time extra special.  Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny is likely to make an appearance with treats designed just for the youngsters.

Visit the Big Texan for your next holiday and make us a part of your family’s traditions.

The Sales Department will be happy to work with you to arrange special seating and menus for your group.  We are adept at assisting with plans for family reunions, graduation parties, rehearsal dinners, awards dinners or business meetings.

If you are bringing a group of 20 or more to the Big Texan, it’s always a good idea to make your arrangements in advance.  A spontaneous group is welcome, even on the busiest night, but if we don’t know you’re coming it might take a while to arrange seating to accommodate you.

Ride to the Big Texan in Grand style!  Our “Cowboy Cadillacs” run the I-40 and I-27 corridors in Amarillo.  We regularly pick up guests from motel properties, RV parks and truck stops.  Local residents can make arrangements for us to pick them up at Cavender’s Boot City.  Not to worry, we take everyone back when their bellies are full and their hearts are light.
